Origin Story

Wamuguma Coffee Factory is part of the Ritho Farmers’ Cooperative Society located in Gatundu, Kiambu County. Established in 1972, the cooperative supports smallholder farmers in producing high-quality Kenyan coffees.

The region’s high elevations, fertile volcanic soil, and consistent rainfall create ideal conditions for coffee cultivation. Farmers selectively handpick ripe cherries and deliver them to the Wamuguma factory, where careful processing preserves the clarity and vibrant character that Kenyan coffees are known for.

Process Story

After harvest, the cherries are delivered to the washing station where they are sorted and depulped using the traditional Kenyan washed method.

The coffee undergoes controlled fermentation before being thoroughly washed with clean water to remove the remaining mucilage. The parchment coffee is then soaked, which enhances clarity and brightness in the cup.

After washing, the coffee is dried slowly on raised African drying beds, where it is regularly turned to ensure even drying and optimal flavour development.

This careful process results in a coffee known for its lively acidity, layered fruit notes, and remarkable cleanliness.

Why This Coffee

Kenyan coffees are celebrated for their bright acidity and complex fruit profiles, and this lot from Wamuguma expresses that signature style beautifully.

The combination of high elevation, classic Kenyan varieties, and meticulous washed processing produces a cup that is vibrant, structured, and deeply expressive.

Expect a lively and elegant coffee with sparkling acidity, juicy berry sweetness, and a clean caramel finish.
