Origin Story
This coffee is produced by 75 women farmers who are members of Rambagirakawa, a women’s alliance within the Dukunde Kawa Cooperative. The group was established to support female coffee producers through access to resources, training, and independent income opportunities.
Cherries are delivered primarily to Nkra Washing Station, Dukunde Kawa’s smallest and most remote site, located in a valley surrounded by rolling green hills. While Nkra is modest in size, it is known for producing exceptionally delicate and structured washed coffees.
 
Why is this coffee special?
Nkra Women’s Coffee is more than just a cup profile — it represents financial independence and empowerment for women in Rwanda’s coffee-growing communities.
The women receive an additional premium for processing and selling their coffee as a separate lot. Beyond coffee, many members generate extra income through crafts such as basket weaving and embroidery, supporting education, housing improvements, and long-term stability for their families.
In the cup, this careful washed processing delivers a clean, tea-like body, lifted citrus brightness, and refined floral aromatics — a profile that reflects both the highland terroir and the precision of Dukunde Kawa’s quality-focused approach.
